    Country-by-country operational notices, restrictions, and requirements for aviation operations across Africa.

    Algeria

    Only the following operations are allowed (with no crew/passenger disembark allowed):

    Under current restrictions, flights to & from Algeria are suspended Until Further Notice, except for:

    • State Aircraft • Cargo Flight • Medevac flights • Technical landings • Private Flights

    A negative PCR test is required for crew and passengers if they intend to leave the airport.

    Operators of passenger flights must request a permit number from the via foreign ministry.

    Angola

    COVID 19 restrictions dictate that, all passengers must carry negative PCR COVID-19 tests, and also take a quick test upon arrival at Luanda (FNLU) is mandatory.

    Crew don't need to carry negative PCR COVID-19 tests, but a quick test is required upon arrival.

    All passenger connection from/to Federative Brazil Republic and Republic of India are temporary suspended with the exception of the following flights:

    • Humanitarian • Medical • Technical stop • Expatriation • Cargo • Diplomatic flights

    Benin

    We are advised that airports are open but travelers are required to take a COVID test at a cost of 153.00 EUR upon arrival into Benin.

    It is also mandatory for travelers to present a valid COVID-19 test upon departure.

    Only crew and passenger in transit with official documentation are exempted.

    Botswana

    COVID-19 – REOPENING OF AIRPORTS (PORTS OF ENTRY) – The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism is pleased to inform members of the public and the international community that Botswana is ready to receive private charter flights from 1st November 2020.

    The following International Airports are open for international flights from 09th November 2020: • Kasane International Airport (FBKE/BBK) • Maun International Airport (FBMN/MUB) • Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (FBSK/GBE) • P. G. Matante International Airport (FBFT/FRW) will reopen on the 1st December 2020.

    Please note that visitors must adhere to the following requirements: a) Visitors must present a valid 72-hour negative COVID-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) result from time of departure. b) Visitors must be screened for COVID-19 symptoms upon entry. c) Visitors arriving with COVID symptoms will be required to undertake mandatory testing and possible isolation and/or quarantine. d) Visitors will be required to remain in contact with the local health authority for a period of 14 days doing self-monitoring. e) Returning citizens and residents not meeting the requirement will undergo 14-day mandatory quarantine and testing at their own cost. f) Non-citizen visitors not meeting the requirements will NOT be allowed entry into Botswana. g) Travelers exiting Botswana are expected to comply with travel regulations of the destination country at their own expense.

    FBKY / Kanye Airport is closed for maintenance until 31st December 2020.

    Burkina Faso

    Bobo-Dioulasso (DFOO/BID) & Ouagadougou (DFFD) are now open for all types of flight but due to COVID-19 infection prevention, passengers and crew members must present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result.

    The requirement for PCR testing remains however the charge for local test has decreased from €76.22 to €38.11.

    Burundi

    Since the week beginning 09th November 2020 there are no restrictions in place at Melchior NDADAYE airport (HBBA/BJM), with all flights operating to and from Bujumbura.

    Flights to Burundi restarted. Pax must have a printed medical certificate with a negative Coronavirus PCR test issued at most 72 hrs before departure from first embarkation point (Cert. must be in English or French).

    Pax are subject to a PCR test upon arrival at their own expense. Pax are subject to quarantine for 7 days at their own expense in a hotel listed http://www.booking.tourisme.gov.bi/

    Cameroon

    All Cameroon airports remain closed to all inbound international flights due to COVID-19 infection prevention. This restriction does not affect the following flights: • Aircraft in state of emergency • Cargo flights • Technical landing • Medevac flights • Repatriation and special flights authorized by government.

    Persons on board except crew shall not be permitted to disembark without authorization.

    Crew members and passengers disembarking must follow the directives of health authorities.

    Except aircraft in emergency, the exempted flights are to seek Pre-authorization from Cameroon civil aviation authority. Landing Authorization requests must be submitted at least 48 hours before the scheduled flight date, except for medevac flights that are treated as urgent.

    Due to operational reasons, exempted flights must take off or Land as far as possible between 06:00 and 22:00 UTC.

    ENR ATC is normal and air operators are able to file Douala (FKKD/DLA) and Yaounde-Nsimalen (FKYS/NSI) as alternate aerodromes.

    Inbound passengers must show negative PCR test issued 72 hours before arrival. Crew overnight is possible. Permits can be obtained through normal channel (CAA).

    Cape Verde

    COVID-19: All inbound international flights, to and from CABO VERDE, ARE AUTHORIZED.

    Flights are also authorized for technical landing and refuelling at national airports that may involve the rest of crews and passengers, and the respective embarkation and disembarkation of passengers and crew members.

    Health surveillance of disembarking crew members and passengers, are required to present a negative antigen test result or a negative RT-PCR test result, or any other negative molecular test result validated by health authorities, carried out within a maximum period of 72 hours, before boarding.

    Under penalty of being refused entry into the country, the test is allowed to be performed in CABO VERDE at the passenger's expense.

    Crew and passengers must complete the surveillance and health control form, preferably via the web.

    Exceptional regime: Passengers who do not carry proof of testing to COVID-19 with a negative result are immediately referred to carry out the said test at their own expense.

    The crew of operators who carry out regular commercial activities are exempt from the presentation of test with a negative result.

    Passengers in transit or in transfer, who do not cross the national border, are exempted from the presentation of the test.

    Children under 7 years of age are excluded from the presentation of the test.

    Central African Republic

    Bangui M'Poko Airport (FEFF/BGF) is closed to all inbound international flight due to COVID-19 infection prevention. This restriction does not affect the following flights: • Aircraft in a state of emergency • Cargo flights • Technical landings • Humanitarian/Medivac/Repatriation flight • Special flights permitted (United Nations/VIP flights)

    Persons on board, except crew, shall not be permitted to disembark without authorisation.

    Bangui M'Poko international airport is gradually reopened to all international flights. However commercial passenger flights are authorized on the basis of one flight per week and company on departure and arrival.

    All passengers on departure and arrival are subject to the barrier measures issued by the Central African government for the fight against COVID-19.

    Due to COVID-19 pandemic and the drop of air traffic in ASECNA space, all airlines wishing to serve Bangui M'Poko airport are required to file flight plans 24 hours before EOBT.

    Chad

    All airports in Chad are now open again to international flights carrying passengers and/or cargo flights but please check in with the G.A.S. operations team for the latest updates prior to operating your flight.

    Crew and passengers must present a negative PCR test certificate on arrival that is not more than 72 hours old.

    However there is a curfew in place at N'Djamena International Airport (FTTJ/NDJ) from 2000Z to 0400Z.

    Comoros

    In order to prevent the propagation of 'COVID-19', all international commercial flights connecting through Union of Comoros are suspended with the exception of Cargo flights.

    All Union of Comoros airports (FMCH, FMCV, FMCI) operating hours are: 0500-1400.

    Comoros & Mayotte

    Limited ATS hours are in operation, please check with us for the latest restrictions.

    Congo Republic

    Airport is open 24/7.

    A curfew is in place between 22:00Z to 04:00Z on Monday to Friday and between 19:00Z and 04:00Z on a Saturday and Sunday.

    ALL inbound passengers must present their negative test PCR.

    PCR tests are not required for Crew members.

    Cote d'Ivoire

    As of 05 August 2020, all travelers to and from the Ivory Coast are required to carry a COVID 19 negative test certificate with a date no more than 03 days in the past, and from midnight on 05th September 2020 all travelers will be tested upon arrival to help prevent the spread of COVID 19.

    Flights have resumed. Pax must have a printed medical certificate with a negative Covid-19 PCR test result, taken at most 5 days before departure from the first embarkation point. Passengers under 11 are exempt.

    Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)

    All passengers must present a medical certificate negative COVID-19 test no older than 3 days prior to arrival in the DRC.

    All passengers must also undergo a PCR test upon arrival in the DRC.

    It is not mandatory for crew members to present a negative COVID-19 test no older than 7 days prior to arrival in the DRC.

    Crew members are not required to undergo the PCR test upon arrival.

    FZNA – RUNWAY LENGTH: ICAO FZNA has certified GOMA airport in the category of international standard airports now with a Runway Length of 3200/60 meters for FZNA which can accommodate airplanes of all types such as AN-124, B787, B777 and others with a maximum authorized landing mass.

    Pax must complete a Travel Registration Form https://inrbcovid.com/index.php/user/home_en before arrival which will generate a QR code to be presented upon arrival. Pax are also subject to a Coronavirus test on arrival at their own expense.

    Djibouti

    All flights can operate if they have a landing permit and have obtained permission from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Civil Aviation Authority.

    Crew and Passengers should present a negative PCR test, no longer that 72 hours old upon arrival from their country of departure when entering Djibouti.

    Passengers without a certificate will not be able to disembark during tech stop.

    Operating crews are not required to be tested on arrival but if they do not have a COVID-19 negative test certificate, they will be tested for temperature. If further COVID19 tests are positive those individuals will be quarantined in isolation.

    Certificates are not needed if crew are not disembarking from the aircraft.

    Crew members can rest in Djibouti except for crews from India, South Africa, and Brazil.

    All crew & pax from India, South Africa & Brazil are prohibited to enter at Djibouti due to variants.

    Egypt

    COVID-19 procedures that aircrafts operating international passenger operations shall comply with the following:

    Health declaration forms must be completed by passengers and crew before arrival.

    Aircraft shall be sterilized from the origin airport, then fill the Aircraft COVID-19 Disinfection control sheet.

    A certificate of a negative result of the PCR test is mandatory for both passengers and crew who will enter the country & it must be made no later than 72 hours from the time of departure from origin.

    It's prohibited of entry to Egypt for all nationalities unless the passenger is holding a Negative PCR for COVID-19 test issued within 72hr before arrival day.

    Children less than 6 years are exempted.

    In case of passenger arriving not holding a PCR test, a PCR test will be done upon arrival with the charge of $30.

    Equatorial Guinea

    Equatorial Guinea has entered the second phase of relaxation of containment measures.

    International airlines are authorized to operate 1 (one) flight per week into Equatorial Guinea. For additional flights, airlines must request special authorization.

    Passengers and crews arriving in Malabo must present a negative PCR test certificate that is no more than 48 hours old.

    In case of not presenting a negative PCR test certificate visitors will be required to take a compulsory test paid for by the passenger or crew.

    All flights must abide by all pandemic prevention measures issued by the World Health Organization (WHO).

    Eritrea

    All flights can land in Asmara International Airport (HHAS/ASM) if they have landing permit obtained from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Civil Aviation Authority.

    All arriving passengers must have PCR negative test certificate issued within 72hr before arrival day.

    Ethiopia

    All Aerodromes within the country are still open. From 18th July 2020 the following apply:

    Pax must have a medical certificate with a negative Covid-19 PCR test result with the test being taken at most 120 hours before arrival. Exemptions apply to pax younger than 10 years, diplomatic passport holders, service passport holders, AU Laissez-Passer holders, UN Laissez-Passer holders, or immediate family members of exempt persons.

    All travelers arriving with a negative PCR SAR CoV test done up to 5 days before entering Ethiopia will be required to undertake a 14-day self-quarantine at home after giving a sample upon arrival.

    All arriving passengers with NO certificate will be quarantined at selected hotels for 7 days at the passenger's own expense.

    Diplomat passengers with PCR negative test certificate & children under 12 years are exempted from isolation.

    No other COVID-19 test type is accepted except Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.

    Quarantine requirement does not apply to transit passengers and crews.

    Crew will stay at the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel until their departure time, the expense is $125 USD per day.

    Chemical disinfection of all aircraft is mandatory (wide body $560.00 & small aircraft $360.00).

    Gabon

    In line with imposed curfew the authorities request that all flights are conducted between 07:00 UTC & 14:30 UTC.

    Passengers arriving from certain European countries are not allowed to enter (unless they are nationals/residents of Gabon).

    All passengers must have a medical certificate with a negative Coronavirus (COVID-19) PCR test result issued at most 5 days before departure from the first embarkation point (does not apply to passengers under the age of 6).

    All passengers are subject to Coronavirus (COVID-19) PCR test upon arrival and self-isolation for 14 days.

    Pax will be in quarantine for 24h except if they have been already vaccinated.

    Gambia

    Passengers must have a medical certificate with a negative Coronavirus (COVID-19) PCR test result issued at most 72 hours prior to arrival (does not apply to passengers under the age of 6).

    Passengers arriving from certain countries are subject to COVID-19 test upon arrival and are subject to quarantine until test results are ready.

    These flights require landing permits to operate.

    Ghana

    Kotoka International Airport (DGAA/ACC) is open to all subject to new travel procedures.

    All aircraft operators must inform their passenger about the new passenger restrictions and health measures via www.gcaa.com.gh/web/protocols.html

    Passengers must have a medical certificate with a negative COVID-19 PCR test from not more than 72 hours prior to departure at the first embarkation point.

    All arriving passengers who test positive for COVID-19 will undergo mandatory isolation and treatment at a designated health facility for a period of seven (7) days.

    All passengers who test negative will be required to continuously adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols and will receive regular information within five (5) days of arrival.

    Guinea

    Conakry (CKY) is open. Pax must complete health declaration and present negative medical certificate issued at most 5 days before arrival.

    Pax subject to screening on arrival. Symptomatic pax will receive a PCR test on arrival.

    Guinea Bissau

    Due to the COVID-19 pandemic only the following flights are authorised at Osvaldo Vieira International Airport of Bissau (GGOV): • Aircrafts in difficulty • Over-flights • Humanitarian aid, medical and rescue mission flights • Cargo flights • Aircrafts having taken GGOV as an alternate aerodrome • Technical stopover aircraft without passenger disembarkation • Other operational flights related to security

    Flights have resumed. All passengers must possess negative PCR test results issued within 72 hours of departure.

    Kenya

    Travellers must complete the mandatory Ministry of Health travellers Health Service online form and submit prior to travel: https://bit.ly/covid19moh

    All flight crew, air operators and passengers are advised to strictly follow COVID-19 prevention protocols at all airports and inside the aircraft.

    All crew shall be exempt from quarantine after operating any flight if their body temperature is not above 37.5°C, do not exhibit symptoms of COVID-19 and there is no suspected case on their flight.

    All arriving passengers on international flights must be in possession of a PCR based COVID-19 negative certificate that is digitally verifiable for a test conducted within 96 hours of commencement of travel.

    Passengers arriving/departing on flights after the curfew, with a valid Air Ticket and Boarding Pass shall be allowed to proceed.

    Lesotho

    Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, regional and domestic flights are prohibited regardless of their risk category or country of origin.

    All airports will be operating on reduced hours (07:00 and 13:00 Daily).

    Only flights for essential cargo and services will be allowed to operate.

    Liberia

    All International airports are currently opened.

    It is mandatory that disembarking passengers be tested at the Airport at a cost to themselves of $75.00.

    Embarking Pax should have a valid test results from the testing center at GLRB, before departure.

    Crew must be 72hrs free from COVID-19 Testing, if more than 72hrs they will be tested for a fee at GLRB.

    If a passenger or crew member is tested positive on arrival they will be taken to the Quarantine center for 14 days.

    Madagascar

    Airports are reopened. Pax must have a printed medical certificate with a negative Coronavirus PCR test result issued at most 3 days before arrival. The certificate must be issued in Arabic, French, or English. This does not apply to nationals of Mauritania or passengers under age 10.

    The use of Ivato Airport (FMMI/TNR), Toamasina Airport (FMMT/TMM) as an alternate is permitted for domestic flights only but aircraft in emergency and technical situations will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

    Operations of domestic flights from Antananarivo to various destinations but travelers must carry a negative PCR test certificate not older than 72 hours before boarding.

    Mali

    Mali is accepting international flights but the following must be considered in connection with COVID-19 pandemic requirements:

    Passengers and crew must wear a face mask in all airport areas.

    Passengers must present a negative Covid test certificate that is less than 5 days old at the time of arrival.

    Crew are not required to present Covid test certificates.

    Crew are requested to stay at their hotel and avoid any visits out of their hotel.

    Mauritania

    Since September 10, all Mauritania airports are open to international air transport however arriving crew and passengers must:

    • Wear a mask • Maintain hand washing or disinfections with hydroalcoholic solutions • Respect of a distance of at least 1.5m between 2 people • Provide negative PCR test certificate or a test valid at least 5 days from the date of reporting the result

    Passengers who do not have a PCR test will be required to return to the origin of the flight and will not be accepted in the territory.

    Temperature taking without contacts by thermal camera will take place. In case of a detected fever the passenger must undergo a PCR or RDT test.

    All passengers coming from countries where the new COVID-19 variant (South Africa, Brazil, UK) must ensure isolation and a secure transfer to a containment site for 14 days at their charge.

    Mauritius

    To assist in the prevention of Corona virus into Mauritius pilots of all arriving aircraft are required to report any suspected case on board their aircraft to the appropriate ATS unit well in advance of arrival.

    Entry of aircraft into Mauritius is prohibited except for such aircraft as may be authorised.

    No passengers will be allowed entry or transit unless they comply with mandatory quarantine for a minimum of 14 days in a state-designated quarantine facility.

    Passengers will have to undergo a PCR test for COVID-19 between five and seven days prior to the date of boarding and the result shall be negative.

    Passengers must undergo swabbing with regard to PCR test upon arrival at the SSR international airport. PCR tests will also be carried out on day 7 and day 14.

    Crew members will be allowed entry for crew rest purposes at Holiday Inn Hotel which has been designated as the sole state-designated quarantine facility for crew rest purpose.

    Starting from 01st July 2020, domestic flights to and from Rodrigues will be allowed with specific conditions including mandatory masks, temperature checks, and 14-day health surveillance.

    Morocco

    COVID-19 – All flights to or from United Kingdom, Denmark and South Africa are suspended until further notice. Passengers from those countries travelling through another country are not allowed to enter Morocco.

    Exempted from these restrictions are overflying, cargo and medical flights.

    Aircraft operators must inform passengers about the obligation to fill in the passenger health form (FSP) online: http://www.onda.ma/form.php

    Countries are classified in two lists A and B based on epidemiological data. Travelers from List A countries may enter with proof of full vaccination or a negative PCR certificate issued no more than 72 hours prior to boarding.

    Travelers from List B countries: vaccinated passengers need the health form, vaccination certificate, and negative PCR (48 hours). Unvaccinated passengers additionally need a voucher for 10 days of quarantine at designated hotels.

    Mozambique

    Flights to Mozambique are suspended, this does not apply to flights arriving from Ethiopia, Kenya, Portugal, Qatar, South Africa and Turkey; humanitarian, medevac, and repatriation flights.

    There is a suspension of visa on arrival facilities.

    Pax must have a printed medical cert. with a negative Coronavirus PCR test result issued at most 72 hrs before departure with the certificate being issued in French, Portuguese or English.

    Pax are subject to medical screening and quarantine for 10 days. Airline crew are subject to medical screening and quarantine until their next scheduled flight.

    ENR alternates are normal and Air Operators are able to file MAPUTO (FQMA/MPM), BEIRA (FQBR/BEW) and NACALA (FQNC/MNC) as alternate aerodromes.

    Namibia

    At the following airports, ATC is closed due to the COVID-19 state of emergency. Air Traffic Services are only available on a on-call basis for emergency and specially authorised flights: • Luderitz (FYLZ/LUD) • Ondangwa (FYOA/OND) • Katima Mulilo (FYKM/MPA) • Walvis Bay (FYWB/WVB)

    The Namibia Civil Aviation Authority has updated their guidelines to reduce the spread of COVID-19 while reintroducing international tourism.

    Disinfecting of aircraft before and after each flight is mandatory, along with mandatory usage of face masks and social distancing in terminal buildings and on board aircraft.

    Travelers must present a negative SARS-CoV-2 PCR test result that is not older than 72 hours. Travelers without may be subjected to supervised quarantine for 7 days.

    Crew members entering Namibia to provide humanitarian assistance may enter without a test but must be subjected to mandatory quarantine and testing for 7 days.

    Niger

    There is no NOTAM currently in progress but for COVID-19 there are no restrictions to enter DRRN, only a 72-hour test and a verification check.

    If the passenger does not have this COVID-19 test document they will be tested on arrival at a cost of 46.00 EUR. This document will only be valid for 72 hours.

    Nigeria

    Nigeria is open to international flights other than those operated from prohibited countries or unapproved airlines, please contact the G.A.S. ops team for an up to date list.

    International flights to DNMM and DNAA restarted. All operations shall be in strict compliance with existing Covid-19 protocols.

    Pax must have a printed medical certificate with a negative Coronavirus PCR test with the test being taken at most 96 hours before departure of the last direct flight to Nigeria and the certificate must be in English.

    Pax are subject to medical screening and self-isolation for 7 days as well as a Coronavirus PCR test within the 7 days after arrival.

    Republic of Guinea

    Conakry International Airport / Gbessia International Airport is closed to all public traffic with the exception of Cargo and Humanitarian flights.

    Conakry (CKY) is open. Pax must complete health declaration and present negative medical certificate issued at most 5 days before arrival. Pax subject to screening on arrival. Symptomatic pax will receive a PCR test on arrival.

    Reunion

    France maintains control at its borders and restricts travel.

    Passengers arriving from EU member states and select countries are not limited in their reasons for travel.

    Passengers from any other country shall be given authorisation to enter only for reasons given in the derogatory travel forms.

    Passengers aged eleven years old or older shall present a negative virological screening result carried out less than 72hr before the flight.

    Rwanda

    All travelers arriving into Rwanda must be tested negative of COVID-19 within 72 hours of departure and complete the passenger locator form and upload test results to the government website.

    All travelers will be screened upon entry and will be given a 2nd test to confirm the negative result.

    All travelers are required to complete 24 hours in a designated transit hotel while awaiting results of the 2nd test.

    Effective June 15, 2021, all passengers arriving from or having travelled India and Uganda in last 7 days are required to complete 7 days in mandatory quarantine upon arrival at designated hotels at their own cost.

    São Tomé

    FPST (São Tomé) and FPPR (Príncipe) – All commercial and private flights are prohibited. This period may be extended.

    Flights have restarted. Pax must have a medical certificate with a negative Coronavirus PCR test result with the test taken at most 72 hrs before departure.

    Senegal

    Due to COVID-19 pandemic all flights from or to Senegal are suspended, except for cargo, sanitary and special flights which require prior authorization. Domestic flights are permitted.

    Flights have restarted. Nationals of several European countries are not allowed to enter.

    Passengers must have a medical certificate with a negative Coronavirus RT-PCR test result issued at most 5 days before departure from the first embarkation point.

    Seychelles

    Seychelles International Airport (FSIA) remains open and available.

    Visitors are currently permitted to travel if they are travelling from Category 1 countries, provided they have not been in a non-Category 1 country in the previous 14 days.

    All persons intending to travel to Seychelles must apply for their Health Travel Authorisation at https://seychelles.govtas.com/

    Applicants must have a valid negative PCR COVID-19 test certificate (English or French) less than 72 hours old.

    All visitors are required to have travel and health insurance cover for Covid-19 related quarantine and medical care.

    On the 5th day after arrival, all visitors must have a Covid-19 PCR test.

    Visitors from Category 2 countries are required to stay in one specifically authorized establishment for the first 6 nights after entering Seychelles.

    Sierra Leone

    GFLL / Freetown (Lungi) International Airport is opened to all commercial airlines.

    All passengers shall produce a negative PCR COVID-19 test result issued no longer than 72 hours before departure at point of origin.

    At check-in, passengers are required to display travellers' authorisation received through the government of Sierra Leone travel portal.

    All passengers shall be subjected to a mandatory COVID-19 test upon arrival (PCR test swab and an RDT test).

    If the RDT screening is negative, passengers are allowed to depart from the airport while awaiting their PCR test result.

    If the RDT screening is positive, passengers will be isolated at a hotel in Lungi while awaiting PCR results at the passenger's own expense.

    All children under 2 years shall be exempted from pre-departure and arrival PCR test requirements.

    Airline crew are exempted from the pre-departure and arrival PCR test requirements.
